Mass Flow With Lane Divider

High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor With Lane Divider to Run Two Production Lines at the Same Time

This week we shipped one of our new high capacity mass flow spiral conveyors with 20″ wide slats to Lindy’s Italian Ice’s production facility in North Carolina. The spiral will convey cups of Italian Ice from a spiral freezer down to the floor level.

This application is interesting in that the cups come out of the freezer with two different flavors at the same time, which need to be conveyed in separate lanes. The two lanes are fed on to the spirals’s extended infeed which is equipped with a center lane divider ensuring separation of the two flavors in the spiral decline. The products are then discharged from  both sides of the spiral’s extended outfeed and conveyed to separate cartoners.

This spiral freezer and associated mass flow vertical conveyor enabled the customer to increase the production rate drastically. By using 2 lanes within one Ryson Spiral they also significantly reduced the cost of equipment.

Because of the size of the 2300-500 model high capacity spiral a stepped-deck flatbed trailer was used to ship the spiral. One of our Yorktown-based technicians met the trailer at it’s destination to supervise the unloading and set-up of the spiral, which took a day and a half.

The 20″ wide  slat mass flow model can handle capacities up to 2,000 bottle cans or jars per minute are also available in powder coated carbon steel, stainless steel and washdown versions. For more information on Ryson’s High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor, please visit www.ryson.com. Our integration partner on this project was Garvey Corporation.

Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor at Pack Expo

Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor on Day 1 at Pack Expo 2010

Generally speaking, the first day of a trade show is the slowest. Well, we couln’t tell. The traffic our booth generated was a great rush and there was much interest in the high capacity mass flow spiral conveyor Ryson is exhibiting at the show.

The Ryson Mass Flow Spirals are designed to handle full and empty bottles, cans, jars and similar containers. Products are conveyed up or down in a continuous mass flow.

The Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyors are based on the already proven and reliable Ryson Vertical Spiral technology. Only one drive motor is needed, equating to substantial savings in controls and systems integration. All Ryson Spirals are designed for low maintenance and long life. Many spirals operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ryson Spirals have a small footprint and provide considerable space savings compared to conventional methods.

Ryson encourages product testing at our modern manufacturing facility in Yorktown, Virginia.

Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor Product Test

Customers are welcome to test their product on our spiral conveyors.

Ryson welcomes customers to test their products on our spirals conveyors to evaluate conveyability and if special considerations are necessary. This process helps ease engineering concerns and may proactively address product handling challenges. The goal is to find the best possible solution for our customer’s needs.  It is another example of the comittment we have to customer service.

In the photo, engineers from J.M. Smucker Company studies how their glass jar products behave when conveyed on our High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor. Questions about side transfer, spiral volume and angle of incline were all answered satisfactorily.

If you would like to set up a product test or have any application questions, please visit www.ryson.com or give us a call at 757.898.1530.

Ryson International is an active member of PMMI. Our President and CEO Ole Rygh attended the PMMI Annual Meeting which was held in Greenville, South Carolina last week. PMMI’s Chairman reported that the organization is growing and is in good health. There were many useful presentations and activities including the following:

There was a pertinent presentation on the National Export Initiative with sustainability issues and programs available for small and mid-sized manufacturers. Panel discussions included consumer packaged goods companies automation needs and the role equipment suppliers play in early packaging design stages. A panel of brand managers discussed the factors that impact their choices of packaging materials and how those choices affect the machinery they use. Other discussions included economic outlooks and how to win orders without negatively impacting the bottom line.

The highlight of the event was the plant tour of Hartness International, Inc., a world-class facility. Visitors learned about cross-functional teams and how to seek out and eliminate waste in any process. The meeting ended with a passionate presentation on how to elevate success for the best return on our PACK EXPO investment.

Pack Expo Logo and DateRyson will be attending PACK EXPO next month in Chicago. It will be a large show for Ryson as we are bringing a High Capacity / Multiple In-feed Vertical Spiral Conveyor, a Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor, and a Unit Load Case Spiral Conveyor. We will be in Booth 4634 and hope to see you there.

Mass Flow Spiral Elevator from Ryson

Mass Flow Spiral Lowerator with full jars of applesauce at Knouse Foods

Knouse Foods in Gardners Pennsylvania recently put a Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor into operation. The Spiral Elevator moves jars of applesauce in mass from the filling operation on a mezzanine level down to a packaging line on the ground floor.
The supplied spiral is a stainless steel wash-down unit and is equipped with 12 inch wide slats. This solution allows Knouse to smoothly decline their product at the rate of 350 jars per minute – Within a very small footprint, saving valuable floor space.
The System Integrator was Arrow Conveyor Equipment, Inc.
