What is an In-line Rotating Conveyor?

A rotating conveyor is an in-line conveyor module that changes the orientation of boxes, cartons, cases, or other unitized loads as they move through a conveyor system. The Ryson Rotating Conveyor gently rotates products in 90-degree increments while helping maintain product spacing, line speed, and continuous flow.

How does the Ryson Rotating Conveyor work?

The Ryson Rotating Conveyor uses proven slat conveyor design principles to rotate a product while it travels along the conveyor. The load does not need to be started, stopped, removed from the conveyor, or aggressively accelerated to complete the rotation.

Products enter the rotator with a small amount of clearance between individual units. As the product travels through the conveyor, the conveyor rotates it clockwise or counterclockwise in 90-degree increments. The product exits the rotator in the required orientation for labeling, packing, unloading, inspection, or downstream conveying.

Rotating ConveyorThe unique design does not need any adjustment between load sizes for most products.  Additionally the rotator runs at the speed of other conveyors in the line, ensuring a smooth consistent flow without bunching or load interaction.

Rotators can be configured to rotate boxes either clockwise or counterclockwise about the axis of the direction of travel in 90° increments. This new slat conveyor is used in packing lines where products need to be rotated upside down or to one side without delay or product damage, The Ryson High Speed Rotator can accommodate a wide range of load sizes without adjustment.

What applications are best suited for a Ryson Rotating Conveyor?

The Ryson Rotating Conveyor is ideal for production and packaging lines where product orientation matters and throughput cannot be sacrificed. Common applications include case rotation for labeling, box orientation for inspection, product turning before packing, and load reorientation in bottling or food and beverage operations.

Recommended applications include:
– Rotating boxes or cases for one-side or multi-side labeling.
– Orienting products before date coding, barcode scanning, or inspection.
– Rotating cases during bottle filling, unloading, or reloading operations.
– Preparing CPG products for packing, palletizing, or downstream automation.
– Supporting industrial manufacturing lines where boxed units need consistent orientation.
– Maintaining product presentation in warehouse and distribution conveyor systems.

180º Rotating ConveyorThe Ryson Rotating Conveyor provides controlled product rotation without the throughput loss often associated with stop-start turners or manual handling. It is built for high-speed production environments where reliable orientation, gentle handling, and low maintenance are critical.

Multiple Rotating Conveyors can be used in series to achieve more rotation in 90º increments.

The Ryson Rotating Conveyor provides product rotation on a conveyor system that matches adjoining conveyors, so there is not drop in throughput.

Our High Speed Rotator uses the same technology as our Spiral Conveyors and have very few wear parts, and no belts that need repairing, helping you reduce maintenance down time.

The Ryson Rotating Conveyor is both reliable and handles products gently. The smooth conveying surface can handle many different sized and shaped products without the need for change parts or adjustments.

Our Rotating Conveyor can run at speeds up to 200 fpm, making them suitable for most processes.

The design accommodates a wide range of load sizes without adjustment for most products.

How does a rotating conveyor compare with other product-turning methods?

A rotating conveyor is often the better choice when products must be turned gently and continuously without reducing throughput. Belt turners, bump turners, ARB case rotators, flippers, and manual turning can each be useful in the right application, but they may require more product-specific setup, introduce handling variation, or interrupt flow.

Ryson’s advantage is controlled inline rotation with consistent spacing and line speed. This makes it especially valuable for high-speed packaging, labeling, bottling, and manufacturing operations where downtime, jams, or product damage are expensive.

Why choose Ryson for in-line product rotation?

Ryson combines specialized product-rotation engineering with proven conveyor technology used across demanding industrial environments. The Rotating Conveyor is built for operations that need speed, reliability, gentle handling, and integration support from a conveyor manufacturer focused on vertical conveyance and material handling systems.

Choose Ryson when your line needs:
– Inline product rotation without slowing production.
– Gentle handling of boxes, cartons, cases, or unit loads.
– 90-degree clockwise or counterclockwise rotation.
– Minimal changeover or adjustment for most load sizes.
– Low-maintenance conveyor technology with few wear parts.
– Engineering support for packaging, food and beverage, CPG, manufacturing, and distribution applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Rotating Conveyor turns boxes, cartons, or packages 90 or 180 degrees while maintaining product flow through the conveyor line.

Use a Rotating Conveyor when packages need to be oriented for labeling, scanning, printing, inspection, case packing, palletizing, or downstream handling.

The Ryson Rotating Conveyor is a way to rotate loads in-line without loss in throughput, making it useful for high-speed packaging and distribution lines.

They are best for stable boxes, cartons, trays, and packaged goods that can be rotated predictably while moving through a conveyor system.

Yes. In many packaging and distribution applications, an In-line Rotating Conveyor can reduce manual handling and improve consistency before labeling, scanning, or palletizing.

It should be installed before the process that requires orientation accuracy, such as barcode scanning, print-and-apply labeling, case packing, or robotic palletizing.

Yes, special guides can be installed to ensure that flaps of boxes remain either open or closed during the rotation process.
