Ryson Spirals Being Installed at Sweetwater Brewing in Atlanta

An old Ryson Show Spiral is now at new packaging line at Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta

Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta, GA is expanding their production and packaging lines. They came to Ryson for their vertical conveying requirements and we were able to offer them a sweet deal on one of our “retired” show demo spirals.

This red demo spiral had been to several trade shows and had been replaced by our new high capacity model. To fit thier application, Ryson shortened the 1600-500 (20″ wide slats) spiral 3 feet and changed the in feed and out feet tangents from a C to an A configuration. This is another example where the proprietary Ryson modular design made it cost effective to reconfigure and repurpose a spiral. Sweetwater Brewing also has two existing Ryson Case Spirals on the production floor. They anticipate all lines will be running by mid March.

Once the production lines are up and running, Ryson will send a technician down to assure that the spirals are running good and have been properly integrated with the adjoining conveyors. Read this Ryson Blog entry for more details on repurposing ryson spirals, or call our sales team at 757-898-1530.

Ryson Spiral Conveyors at Modex 2012

Plenty of interest at the Ryson booth at Modex 2012

The Modex show has been a smashing success for Ryson. We weren’t sure what to expect since this was the first Modex exposition, but the attendance is better than expected and Ryson gets to show off our new Spiral Conveyors to many new prospects and integrators.

Ryson’s booth is running a tall Case Spiral Conveyor with a 16″ wide slats and a High Capacity Spiral with 24″ wide slats. The High Capacity Spiral is running with two induction conveyors to demonstrate how we can introduce packages at intermediate levels into the spiral both in the up, and down direction. The Multiple Infeed Spiral is getting much attention in the warehousing and distribution marketplace.

Ryson Custom Engineered Extended Infeed to minimize production layout

Every Ryson Spiral Conveyor is custom built. Infeed and discharge elevations and angle of incline/decline are taken into account when our engineering team starts to design each spiral. Other factors, including load weight and size are also taken into consideration. Our Spiral team works closely with our customers and integrators to ensure a smooth installation and product flow during operation.

Our manufacturing plant recently shipped a stainless steel – hybrid wash-down – spiral conveyor with a custom engineered extended infeed. Our Integrator  - Kaufman Engineered Systems – needed to align the Ryson Spiral Conveyor into their line layout.  We were able to save them the expense of having to utilize a separate short section of powered conveyor to connect to their packer.

This concept also reduces energy consumption and simplifies integration, because the extended section is driven by the spiral’s drive motor. The spiral conveyors will be handling cases of yogurt coming out of a packer at a name brand yogurt facility.

If you have a project that could benefit from the small footprint of a Ryson Spiral Conveyor, you can find out more information at www.ryson.com. If you fill out the get more information form, our sales team with promptly follow up with you.

Installing Tall High Capacity Spiral

Installing a tall Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyor in a distribution center in Australia.

Four high capacity spiral conveyors are currently being installed in a large distribution warehouse for electronic products in Austrailia. These spiral elevators will service several order picking levels. The Tallest spiral feeds in product at 2′ – 6″ and discharges at 29′ – 0″. The Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors easily handle the tall height requirements with only one drive. The 24″ wide slats will be able to handle loads with variable sizes and weights. There is also an intermediate high-speed induction conveyor at the 12′ – 6″ elevation to accommodate an additional order picking level with the same spiral conveyor unit. The induction conveyor adds additional operational flexibility and reduces the number of vertical conveyors required.

Two-Ryson-Spirals The Ryson Spirals are very easy to install and most spirals are shipped in one piece, pre-tested which drastically reduces the time and cost of installation.  These spirals were loaded fully assembled into 40′ containers and shipped as ocean freight to Australia. A member of our service team traveled down under to supervise the installation and provide maintenance training to ensure the longevity of the vertical conveyors. The integrator on this project is Bastian Material Handling.

Tall Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyor

In the shop this week we are finishing a tall high capacity spiral conveyor. The HC 1700-400 (16″ wide slats) is going to a large consumer products manufacturer in Mexico. The spiral will become part of a system where products from 9 different packaging lines are conveyed overhead to an adjacent building. The spiral then declines variable sized packages 28 feet down to floor level at a speed of 200 FPM. From there they go to sortation and palletizing prior to shipping. The integrator on the project is C & A Systems out of Mexico.

The robust high capacity design gives Ryson the ability to go taller – and with more weight, while staying with our proven proprietary modular design. The total weight capacity in the spiral lift at any one time is 3600 lbs. Only one drive motor is required, resulting in substantial savings in energy, controls and system integration. Most models are shipped totally pre-assembled, which will minimize the implementation costs at their destination.
