Bag Handling Spirals: The Ryson Unit Load Spiral Conveyors are most widely used for cases and totes, but they are also well suited for bags and pails.

Bag Handling SpiralsThis week we’re highlighting a spiral that will be handling bags of Rice, ranging in weight from 25 to 100 lbs.

This 1600-500 model spiral, sold by our integrator Premier Tech, declines bags from an elevation of 16’ down to 10’ to a high level palletizer at a rate of 30 bags per minute. This spiral will be mounted on our extended leg support structure and was configured in a way not to interfere with the pallet dispensing system.

Ryson has much experience with conveying bags and sacks – everything from whey powder to kitty litter. If you would like more information about the Ryson Unit Load Spirals, visit our website, or read more application stories on our weekly blog.

The core Ryson concept is to vertically convey using minimum floorspace. Although the concept is simple, it can be used in countless applications.

Ryson Concept Vertical ConveyingThe Ryson Concept has two main kinds of spirals. A Unit Load Type, and a Mass Flow Type. The unit load Spiral Conveyors smoothly handle boxes, totes, trays and cases and the Mass Flow Spirals convey materials such as cans, bottles and jars in bulk mass. They both come in standard capacity and high capacity – for applications that require extra throughput, weight handling or elevation change. The High Capacity Spirals can optionally be equipped with intermediate infeed or discharge locations, ideal for multi tiered order picking applications.

Much of ryson’s business is in two main categories: Packaging /food & beverage / personal care products and warehousing / oder picking / distribution. Because of the diversity of applications, Ryson has developed several standard slat widths and each model’s footprint size is based on that.

Ryson Concept Standard Sizes Chart

We are dedicated to finding the best spiral that fits your application needs. On the Ryson Website, we have a request for quotation form that you can fill out. It will ask you many questions about the application’s requirements. The Ryson sales team will then figure out the best model and have a quote to you within 24 hours. You can also download this sizing chart and RFQ form for your reference.

The Ryson Unit Load Spirals can convey cartons, cases, trays, totes and all sorts of package sizes in a continuous flow. Central to our design is the Ryson proprietary overlapping slat-style belt that provides a smooth and efficient conveying surface, suitable for all types and sizes of conveyable items. This is very useful in production facilities that convey different sized units or configurations, because a single spiral can be used for multiple lines.

This week we finished a spiral that is used to feed various types of pudding packages from the packaging area to a spiral freezer. Our integrator partner, Nercon Engineering and Manufacturing, is feeding the spiral (Model 1700-600) with two production lines running product 2-abreast into our 17”-0” tall spiral. The 24” wide slat surface is separated into two lanes using a center guide rail. As you can see from the video, the spiral can handle many different package sizes.

The Promat show is going well. The Ryson Spiral conveyors are always a crowd pleaser and stops people in the aisles.

Ryson spiral at ProMat

Ryson shows off the High Capacity Spiral Conveyor at ProMat 2013

The show is well attended and there’s is a buzz that business is picking up again. This show is centered around material handling and attracts a different market segment than some of the other shows Ryson attends.

Ryson is excited to show off the High Capacity Vertical Conveyor with the new induction conveyor design that allows materials enter the spiral at multiple elevations. This is particularly advantageous in the distribution and warehousing segment that often employ multi-tiered pick modules. This new Ryson technology makes it possible to use one spiral for all tiers saving considerable floor space; especially over traditional decline conveyor methods.

Ryson is also running their unit load spiral conveyor at the show. It is ideal for the efficient handling of cartons and totes in virtually any industry. To find out additional information about Ryson’s vertical conveying solutions, please visit www.ryson.com.

Ryson Manufacturing Plant

The assembly hall is nearly full this summer at Ryson’s Yorktown, Virginia plant.

As the mercury rises to record levels outside, Ryson’s production levels are near record capacity. July and August are extremely busy months for Ryson this year. Several of our valued systems integrators will have multiple spiral orders fulfilled and first time customers will receive their inaugural spiral conveyors.

Our unit load spiral conveyors are being used in an ever growing array of specialized applications and our mass flow spiral conveyor is gaining momentum in the bottling industry. The Latin American market has also opened up for us, resulting in even more orders and relationships with new integrators with unique applications.

Thank you to our loyal customers and integrators. They are the reason we can keep our heads down and keep churning out spiral conveyors. If you have any questions or a possible application for vertical conveying, fill out our request for information form online, or download it here.

Ryson Three Lane custom Spiral Conveyor

Custom Designed Ryson Three Lane Spiral Conveyor

Custom Spiral: Ryson is committed to a continuous product development program and to maintain our market leadership position.

This week Ryson is shipping a custom spiral engineered with 3 lanes. Special guide rails were installed to divide the 26″ inch wide conveying surface into 3 separate lanes. This allows the customer (a major confectionary manufacturer) to convey product from 3 separate case packers up one common spiral. This custom solution provides considerable savings in floor space and equipment cost. The spiral lift is a 1800-650 model  with an elevation change of 9′ – 1″.

This is another example of Ryson’s commitment to work with our integrators to find individual solutions for our customers. The integrator on this project is the Brenton Engineering CompanyDownload the Ryson Brochure or visit www.ryson.com to find out more about the scope, depth and breadth of the Ryson Vertical Conveying Solutions product line.
