Ryson High Capacity Vertical Spiral Conveyor

Factory acceptance photo for heavy pales of cat litter on a high capacity spiral conveyor

With a 3600 load capacity the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors are perfect for vertical conveying of heavy loads. This week we are shipping a high capacity 1700-400 spiral conveyor to handle pails of cat litter weighing 55 lbs each. The spiral also has a custom curved extended infeed to optimize the filling line layout in a very tight production area, eliminating the need for an ancillary “connector” conveyor. This 4 3/4 turn spiral will convey plastic pails from the filling area at floor level to a palletizer on the mezzanine level.

The integrator, Arrowhead Conveyor Systems, realized that the vertical transport of  this kind of  weight  was a perfect application for the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors. The spiral will ship in once piece after the spiral has been pre-tested and run for 8 hours in our plant. Ryson Mass Flow FAT

Factory Testing a new High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor with lightweight aluminum bottles

An optional Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is available to all our customers. Ryson always runs and tests each spiral before shipping from our Virginia manufacturing plant, but customers often want assurance that their products are handled as required on our spirals before leaving our factory.  Since travel to observe this isn’t always a viable option, Ryson is happy to videotape and photograph the test and post the video securely via the internet. Many of our customers take advantage of this time and money saving resource.

This week  a 1900-400 High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor is shipping out to MillerCoors in Golden Colorado. The Spiral will lowerate their new aluminum bottles from de-palletizing to the filler. The customer was concerned about the stability and handling of the product since the bottles are tall and lightweight. They shipped us a skid-full so we could test the flow and stability of the product before final approval and shipping.

View a portion of the video we produced for the customer and Sidel, the integrator on this project. If you have any question about how Ryson could set up a video test for you, please give us a call at 757-898-1350 or visit www.ryson.com.

A properly integrated spiral conveyor is one that will give years of reliable performance. To help insure that this happens we conduct conference calls shortly after our approval drawings have been submitted.

Ryson Spiral Start-Up Call

Ryson Team walks through the proper spiral start-up procedures

Here, Steve Dillaman (Vice President Sales) and Doug Glass (Service Manager) are on a conference call with an Integrator’s Project Manager, Controls Engineer and Field Installation Manager. They are reviewing the Integrator’s system layout drawing, along with the spiral approval drawings.  Doug is going over key electrical and mechanical integration points as well as discussing building egress requirements, installation procedures and the project schedule.

We know that helping our systems integrators understand how to properly install and integrate our vertical conveying equipment will ensure smooth startup and long life.  These project kick-off calls are key to that.

Read more about installation and integration here. If you have any questions, please give the Ryson Team a call.

Ryson Three Lane Spiral Conveyor

Custom Designed Ryson Three Lane Spiral Conveyor

Ryson is committed to a continuous product development program and to maintain our market leadership position.

This week Ryson is shipping a custom engineered 3-turn spiral conveyor. Special guide rails were installed to divide the 26″ inch wide conveying surface into 3 separate lanes. This allows the customer (a major confectionary manufacturer) to convey product from 3 separate case packers up one common spiral. This custom solution provides considerable savings in floor space and equipment cost. The spiral lift is a 1800-650 model  with an elevation change of 9′ – 1″.

This is another example of Ryson’s commitment to work with our integrators to find individual solutions for our customers. The integrator on this project is the Brenton Engineering CompanyDownload the Ryson Brochure or visit www.ryson.com to find out more about the scope, depth and breadth of the Ryson Vertical Conveying Solutions product line.

Ryson Accumulation Buffers efficiently utilize vertical space to provide dynamic storage or conveying where products need time for cooling, drying or curing. The already proven spiral technology allows this to happen with a small footprint. The Vertical Accumulation Buffers utilize one bidirectional spiral conveyor or combine two or more spirals for vertical flow.

Ryson Dynamic Vertical Accumulation Buffer

The Ryson Spiral Conveyor can be used with a robotic pick and place module for dynamic buffering.

The Ryson Accumulation Buffers can be used to take up surges between manufacturing processes and can provide dynamic buffering during shorter production or packaging line interruptions. This will reduce downtime and increase productivity.

The Ryson Spiral Conveyor can also be used in conjunction with a robotic pick and place module for dynamic buffering. The robot loads the spiral conveyor directly, and accumulates products during over-supply and purges during times of under-supply. This dynamic Buffering system compensates for intermittent operating interuptions and significantly improves overall production efficiency. Click Here to download an application spotlight (case study) to read about the set-up in detail.

Visit our site more information about using Ryson Spiral Vertical Conveying Technology for accumulation and buffering. Watch the video below to see how customers have used Ryson Spirals for their vertical buffering solutions.

Ryson Spiral for Future Modification

Additional hardware is included with this spiral to change its height and configuration at a later time.

The modular design of the Ryson Spiral Conveyors allow for many aspects of each spiral to be customizable, both at the time of manufacturing and later as a retrofit or repurposing.

On a current project, the modular construction of our vertical lifts allowed a major food manufacturer to order a spiral for an immediate need while being able to anticipate upcoming changes in their packaging line.

The Systems integrator (Brenton Engineering) asked us to build the spiral in our “B” configuration to discharge at 11’-0” and had us manufacture the spiral with an extended center tube for a future change to  a 16’-0” discharge elevation. As an option with all our spirals, Brenton Engineering had us pre-wire the machine, anticipating the future change in elevation of the motor. The spiral included a Ryson stand alone control package.

Ryson Shipping a repurpose spiral

The “repurposing kit” will ship with the spiral conveyor including all the parts necessary to change the elevation and shift from our “B” to our “A” configuration. The ability to re-purpose the spiral on site within 12 months saved their client a considerable amount of time and money. Having the kit on hand allows the customer to perform the change on short notice.

Factory Acceptance Test on Spiral Conveyor

Temperature, and noise levels were recored over an 8 hour period of a running spiral conveyor.for a factory acceptance test

Periodically, our clients request “dry run testing” on their vertical spiral conveyors before leaving our Virginia facility. One such customer asked us to combine this with a video FAT (factory acceptance test).

During the dry run, we take hourly temperature readings on the motor, gearbox and bearings and monitor noise level of the spiral conveyor. This is conducted during an 8 hour period and the data sent off to the customer along with a video of the spiral running their test product.

This service saves the customer valuable time and the cost of travelling to our facility to witness the testing of the spiral lift. Just another “extra” that we do that sets Ryson apart from all our competitors.
