The Ryson modular design allows a standard option for a reversible Spiral.

reversible spiralThis week we shipped the first of two reversible spirals  model 1200-300 for our Integrator – Sentry Equipment & Erectors, Inc. – It will be delivered to a major craft brewery in the Pacific North West. The spiral option is often times used to create two way traffic, to and from an elevated mezzanine level.

Our reversible option includes our air tensioning device and an air manifold. The manifold consists of two pressure regulators, one for forward and one for reverse and a four-way spool valve whose solenoid shifts to the higher pressure when in reverse. Our reverse speed limit is 60 FPM. We can also furnish pre-wired control stations to make field implementation a breeze.

dynamic bufferingA Ryson reversible Spiral Conveyor can also be used in conjunction with a robotic pick and place module for dynamic buffering. The spiral conveyor provides vertical accumulation and buffers any imbalances in the flow of products or supply of cartons. The spiral accumulates products during over-supply and purges during times of under-supply, where the robot will load the cartons directly from the spiral. This dynamic buffering system compensates for intermittent operating interruptions and thereby significantly improves overall production efficiency.

This week we’re shipping a spiral to a Distribution Center with new pre-wired control options.

ryson wiring control options

Our Integrator partner, Conveyor Solutions Inc., requested a pre-wired Spiral Conveyor. Their master control panel was remote, requiring a local mounting of a NEMA 12 control enclosure that incorporated a panel mounted disconnect and a VFD (variable frequency drive).  The VFD was wired so that the integrator could control the spiral with a few digital inputs, and also have the spiral safeties (slack chain and motor over-torque) prewired, so they could be integrated easily.

The ease of implementation and lower cost of us doing that in our factory saved money and installation time.

Most of our Spiral Conveyors are shipped without controls because they normally integrate with an overall conveyor control system. Our spirals always include an inverter duty gear motor and two proximity sensors, one for the automatic chain tensioner and one for the overload protection device. Ryson offers a number of other pre-wiring  and control options.  For more information about Ryson Spiral Conveyor options, visit www.ryson.com.

Ryson Factory Acceptance tests

Ryson Customers are welcome to perform a factory acceptance tests at our manufacturing plant in Yorktown, Va.

Last week, we welcomed engineering and plant maintenance people from a prominent personal care products manufacturer to our Yorktown, Virginia manufacturing facility.

They were here to inspect their four 1200-200 spiral conveyors in a Factory Acceptance Tests. A four hour dry run was done while periodically monitoring motor amperage draw and the temperatures of the motors and gearboxes.

Product test runs were performed while verifying the elevations and getting versed on system integration and installation details. Finally, we reviewed spiral preventive maintenance and went over the recommended spare parts and documentation shipping with the machines.

We were glad to have had them in and they were appreciative that we met their very aggressive lead time schedule of 4 weeks for the (4) spirals.

Ryson Mass Flow GreenOur Mass Flow Spiral business is continuing to grow as more and more glass makers and glass users recognize the benefits of the Ryson Spiral Conveyor. With that growth, comes the requirements to handle a broader range of products and we are responding with more diversity through our growing product line.

Our Mass Flow Conveyors convey full and empty bottles, cans, jars and similar containers in single file or in mass at a rate of up to 2,000 units per minute.

Mass Flow SlatThey are equipped with a proprietary nesting slat design, providing a flat reliable conveying surface. The Mass Flow Spirals are equipped with extended in and outfeed tangents to facilitate smooth side transfer to and from adjoining conveyors without product tipping.

This week we are shipping the new model 2300-260 to a large glass manufacturer designed to handle very tall empty wine bottles, but requiring a low angle of incline to prevent the bottles from tipping. This spiral will convey 13″ tall empty wine bottles in mass at a rate of 540 bottles per minute, and empty reverse-taper glass bottles in single file at a rate of 210 bottles per minute.

Our Integrator Partner for this project is MSK Covertech, Inc. For more information on the Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyors, please visit www.ryson.com, or download our updated spec sheet.

Ryson stacked spirals Double Stacked Spirals: Next week, we’ll be shipping four spiral conveyors to a manufacturer of power tools for our Integrator Partner, Intelligrated.

The project includes two stacked spirals on top of each other. One spiral sits on the floor and elevates cases from the first level to the second level of a picking system. The upper spiral is mounted on a platform that straddles the lower spiral and brings cases down from the fourth level (32’-6”) to the third level.

This system is handling cases that weigh up to 75 lbs. at speeds of 150 feet per minute. Like our spirals, the support structure is modular, allowing it to be transported to the site in smaller panel sections for ease of handling and installation.

The spirals specified on the project are our 1800-650 and will be shipped on a step-deck flatbed to allow them to be shipped pre-assembled – which greatly reduces installation time.

Ryson’s 20th Anniversary This week we are celebrating that Ryson was founded 20 years ago.

We set out to specialize in Vertical Conveying Solutions and today we are the number one manufacturer of Spiral Conveyors in the USA.

Our business philosophy is simple: Focus on quality and service. Take good care of our employees and customers, and find ways to minimize customers’ cost of ownership. From the beginning, we have had a commitment to a continuous product development program.

Today we offer a full line spiral conveyors that can satisfy most vertical conveying needs. Ryson Spiral Conveyors need less floor space than conventional incline conveyors and are faster and more reliable than any elevator or lift.

Our Unit Load Spirals handle a great variety of cases, trays, totes and other packaged goods on our proprietary slat type belts at speeds up to 200 fpm.

The Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Conveyors handle full and empty bottles, cans and jars up 2,000 units per minute.

Our High Capacity Spirals are in response to our customers’ need to go higher and handle more weight. They can handle twice the weight capacity of our standard spirals and can optionally be equipped with induction or divert conveyors, allowing loads to enter or exit the spirals at intermediate elevations.

The latest addition to our product line is the super compact Narrow Trak Spirals, specifically designed handle small loads. A new nesting slat arrangement can end-transfer small cartons or packages, or side-transfer bottles and containers in a single file or in mass at speeds in excess of 200 fpm.

We also manufacture Bucket Elevators for bulk materials and various types of auxiliary equipment for our product lines.

Our Products are mainly sold through Systems Integrators and we have over the years built a strong network of integrator partners. A big thank you goes out to them for their support and dedication. Approximately 25% of our products are exported and we are also extending a special thanks to all our International Partners.
