The Ryson Multiple Entry Spirals allow loads to enter our High Capacity Spirals at intermediate elevations. This is an ideal cost and space saving configuration because it allows a single spiral to handle multiple lines.Ryson Multiple Entry Spirals with Induction Conveyor

Ryson Multiple Entry Spiral Configuration

The multiple entry ability is most often utilized in two main areas:

In the manufacturing and packaging market, an induction conveyor is typically installed at ground level, near the Spiral’s infeed. This configuration simply allows flow from separate production lines to feed a single spiral.

In the distribution and warehousing industry it is most often used to feed materials from a multi-tiered mezzanine onto a single spiral. (see drawing on left). This is an ideal application and an efficient use of space when compared to traditional methods.

A  high speed induction conveyor provides controlled spiral entry. The new induction conveyor powered roller design is individually adjustable to match the spiral pitch, assuring a safe and reliable product transfer. The spirals will run at 200 feet per minute.

Ryson played a key role at American Eagle Outfitter’s new distribution center in Hazelton, PA.

New Ryson Solutions Highlighted at New Distribution Center

Ryson 33′ Tall High Capacity Spiral Conveyors equipped with 4 induction and divert-out conveyors

Our integrator partner, Vargo Material Handling Solutions, designed our spiral conveyors into their Direct-to-Consumer picking system, where operators pick into totes from one of four levels of the pick modules.  Totes are then transported to our multi-infeed spiral conveyors where they are inducted into the spiral and out to the sorter. Vargo’s traffic control system monitors the locations of the totes inside the spiral to allow metering of the totes coming from different levels.

On the other end of the pick modules, empty totes are fed to each pick level via our new divert-out conveyors. These are down spirals with swing arm diverts at each level, which, along with our powered  discharge spurs, divert the totes out of the spiral to feed each level, on-demand.

The high capacity spirals shipped pre-assembled and pre-tested, saving on installation time.

Our High Capacity Spiral Conveyors with multi-level induction and divert out capabilities allow our integrators to provide innovative and reliable space-saving solutions to their customers.

Ryson offers video factory acceptance tests (FAT), or sample product handling videos for our customers and systems integrators. This courtesy is part of our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and application testing. The FAT videos are created at the customer’s request before shipping from our manufacturing facility in Yorktown, Virginia.

In this video, a case of similar size and weight to the customer’s is filmed running on their spiral to ensure it’s being handled properly without change in orientation at the specified speed of 140 FPM. The Spiral here is a High Capacity spiral with 16″ wide slats and will handle cases of varied sizes with weight up to 40 lbs.  The video also features a start/stop test to amplify the orientation trials. The end of the video also highlights areas of interest from a maintenance point of view or any custom features.

The Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyor load capacity is 75 lbs. per linear foot of conveyor with speeds up to 200 FPM. The total weight capacity in the spiral at any one time is 3600 lbs and can start and stop fully loaded.

Ryson Spirals have always been about saving space. But with the High Capacity Spiral Conveyors, Ryson has taken vertical conveying — and space savings — to new heights.

High Capacity Spiral Conveyors with TotesThe two major benefits of the high capacity design are that they can handle more weight in the unit – up to 3600 lbs at a time. It is one of the only machines that can convey high-volume cases with elevation changes of more than 30 feet.

The Second major advantage of the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors is that it can be built with multiple inlets. This allows for example two production levels to use a single spiral. In warehousing this concept is taking off because a four or five tier pick module can be serviced by a single spiral conveyor — with a small footprint — resulting in exponential space savings and increased operating flexibility.

All Ryson Spiral Conveyors need less floor space than conventional incline conveyors and are faster and more reliable than any elevator or lift. The new spirals handle double the capacity of our regular spirals and ship in one piece which drastically reduce the time and cost of installation. The load capacity is 75 lbs. per linear foot of conveyor for speeds up to 200 FPM. An innovative modular design allows Ryson to customize with ease and modify in the field to accommodate emerging needs.

Ryson Spiral Conveyors at Modex 2012

Plenty of interest at the Ryson booth at Modex 2012

The Modex show has been a smashing success for Ryson. We weren’t sure what to expect since this was the first Modex exposition, but the attendance is better than expected and Ryson gets to show off our new Spiral Conveyors to many new prospects and integrators.

Ryson’s booth is running a tall Case Spiral Conveyor with a 16″ wide slats and a High Capacity Spiral with 24″ wide slats. The High Capacity Spiral is running with two induction conveyors to demonstrate how we can introduce packages at intermediate levels into the spiral both in the up, and down direction. The Multiple Infeed Spiral is getting much attention in the warehousing and distribution marketplace.

Ryson High Capacity Vertical Spiral Conveyor

Factory acceptance photo for heavy pales of cat litter on a high capacity spiral conveyor

With a 3600 load capacity the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors are perfect for vertical conveying of heavy loads. This week we are shipping a high capacity 1700-400 spiral conveyor to handle pails of cat litter weighing 55 lbs each. The spiral also has a custom curved extended infeed to optimize the filling line layout in a very tight production area, eliminating the need for an ancillary “connector” conveyor. This 4 3/4 turn spiral will convey plastic pails from the filling area at floor level to a palletizer on the mezzanine level.

The integrator, Arrowhead Conveyor Systems, realized that the vertical transport of  this kind of  weight  was a perfect application for the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors. The spiral will ship in once piece after the spiral has been pre-tested and run for 8 hours in our plant. Tall High Capacity Spiral Conveyor

This Model HC1700-600 High Capacity Spiral Conveyor is our tallest single drive unit manufactured with an elevation of 34′

In the shop this week, we are preparing to ship the 10th and final spiral to a recently expanded sportswear distribution center in North Carolina. The order picking system includes our Model HC1700-600 High Capacity spiral incline conveyors to transport product picked from each of ten 4-level pick modules. The orders are picked from each level of the pick module and enter the spiral via our multi-infeed induction conveyors, where they are elevated to conveyors transporting the full cases to the sortation system.

Ryson multi-infeed induction conveyorThese spirals are the tallest single drive spirals we’ve built to date, standing at an elevation of 34 feet. Each was shipped completely assembled, ready for installation into the system. The implementation of the spiral conveyors allowed the system integrator to increase his overall storage and picking capacity, by saving valuable floor space over traditional incline conveyors.

The Multiple Entry Spirals allow loads to enter the spirals from several different elevations. The induction conveyor belts are individually adjustable to match the spiral pitch assuring smooth operation. Read more about the Ryson Multiple Entry Spirals in this PDF.
