Ryson High Capacity Vertical Spiral Conveyor

Factory acceptance photo for heavy pales of cat litter on a high capacity spiral conveyor

With a 3600 load capacity the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors are perfect for vertical conveying of heavy loads. This week we are shipping a high capacity 1700-400 spiral conveyor to handle pails of cat litter weighing 55 lbs each. The spiral also has a custom curved extended infeed to optimize the filling line layout in a very tight production area, eliminating the need for an ancillary “connector” conveyor. This 4 3/4 turn spiral will convey plastic pails from the filling area at floor level to a palletizer on the mezzanine level.

The integrator, Arrowhead Conveyor Systems, realized that the vertical transport of  this kind of  weight  was a perfect application for the Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors. The spiral will ship in once piece after the spiral has been pre-tested and run for 8 hours in our plant. Tall High Capacity Spiral Conveyor

This Model HC1700-600 High Capacity Spiral Conveyor is our tallest single drive unit manufactured with an elevation of 34'

In the shop this week, we are preparing to ship the 10th and final spiral to a recently expanded sportswear distribution center in North Carolina. The order picking system includes our Model HC1700-600 High Capacity spiral incline conveyors to transport product picked from each of ten 4-level pick modules. The orders are picked from each level of the pick module and enter the spiral via our multi-infeed induction conveyors, where they are elevated to conveyors transporting the full cases to the sortation system.

Ryson multi-infeed induction conveyorThese spirals are the tallest single drive spirals we’ve built to date, standing at an elevation of 34 feet. Each was shipped completely assembled, ready for installation into the system. The implementation of the spiral conveyors allowed the system integrator to increase his overall storage and picking capacity, by saving valuable floor space over traditional incline conveyors.

The Multiple Entry Spirals allow loads to enter the spirals from several different elevations. The induction conveyor belts are individually adjustable to match the spiral pitch assuring smooth operation. Read more about the Ryson Multiple Entry Spirals in this PDF.

Ryson Multiple=The new Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyor design is getting many of our integrators excited. Especially when they learn it can come with multi-level in-feed options. We are showing off it’s capabilities this week at Pack Expo in Chicago.

The new Ryson High Capacity Spirals are in response to our customers need to go higher and handle more weight.

Ryson Multi Entry Spiral at Pack ExpoThe load capacity of the vertical spiral conveyor is 75 lbs. per linear foot of conveyor with speeds up to 200 FPM. The total weight capacity in the incline spiral at any one time is 3600 lbs.

The Multiple Entry option allow loads to enter the spirals from several different elevations. A new high speed induction conveyor provides controlled spiral entry. The conveyor belts are individually adjustable to match the spiral pitch. Traffic controls are required to prevent loads entering from different levels colliding in the spiral.

Visit the www.ryson.com for more information on the High Capacity Spiral Conveyor and how it can be used in a multi tiered system. You can also see some footage on Ryson’s YouTube Channel.

Spiral Lift at Wine & Spirits Distribution Center

Spiral Lift at Wine & Spirits Distribution Center in Florida

In the summer of 2009, we partnered with our Systems Integrator, W & H Systems of Carlstadt, New Jersey, to implement the 16th of our new class of High Capacity spiral conveyors.

W & H’s design at Premier Beverage’s new 550,000 square foot distribution center  in Tampa, Florida utilizes the spiral as an “early-out” incline, transporting completed case picks of wine and spirits from the first level to a sorter on the third level.

The spiral adds to overall picking efficiencies by routing completed orders from the express pick zone directly to the sortation system, rather than transporting them through the second level.

The spiral saves the space and increased cost of turn-key implementation of the more common series of inclines and curves required to make the 25 foot elevation change required. The spiral is our model HC1700-600 and is 27 feet tall and runs at 150 feet per minute.

Congratulations to W & H Systems on another successful project, taking advantage of the latest spiral technology available from Ryson International.
