Every Ryson Spiral Conveyor is Custom Built to Customer Application Requirements

Every Ryson Spiral Conveyor is made to Order.

Every Ryson spiral is made to order to fit your specific application. Variables such as change in elevation, load size and stability, conveying speed, in and out feed angles, throughput volume, weight and orientation requirements are all considered when our proposal team comes up with spiral solutions and pricing.

Ryson has six standard slat widths ranging from 8″ to 26″. The spiral footprint depends on the width of the slat. Slat widths take your product size and or volume requirements into consideration. The angle of incline or decline depends on two major variables – the change in elevation required and the unit stability. Naturally a stable product with a low center of gravity can traverse at a greater angle.

The modular design of the Ryson Spiral Conveyors enables any in-feed and out-feed tangent, allowing you to fit a vertical lift spiral into your line with the smallest possible footprint. Any Ryson Vertical Spiral can be designed to go up or down and can optionally be made reversible. We also work closely with our integrators and offer other options, including special safety considerations, controls, pre-wiring and other options to facilitate integration. All Ryson Spirals are available in powder coated carbon steel (any RAL color), stainless steel, washdown and freezer versions.

Please check out our RFQ form for more information about our spiral conveyors. If you fill in the application specifics, our Ryson proposal team will quickly reply with a spiral recommendation and pricing. You can read more about The Ryson Spiral Conveyors on www.ryson.com.

This week Ryson hosted an engineer from a global beverage manufacturer, who came to inspect and test four 1900-300 mass flow spiral conveyors. The spirals will transport filled PET bottles at rates of 400-800 per minute. Two of the four spirals were manufactured in stainless steel for wash-down areas and the other two had Ryson’s standard powder coat finish.

Ryson Mass Flow Spiral Factory Acceptance Test

Ryson Sales and Service Department Run a Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor for a Customer's Factory Acceptance Test.

After a thorough review of the spiral conveyor specifications, we proceeded to the shop floor where the spirals were tested, running their products. Followed by a complete run-through of the preventive maintenance reccomended on Ryson’s vertical conveyors.

We began to prepare them to ship as soon as our guest left as our technicians will be on-site this weekend to assist in the installation of the first spiral. The spiral conveyors are being implemented into a system designed by Sidel, a Ryson Systems Integrator.

We welcome these Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and enjoy meeting the companies who are creating an ever-growing demand for the best spiral conveyors in the world.

Tall Ryson Dual Track Spiral Conveyor

This week Ryson shipped a tall dual track vertical spiral conveyor. This substantial 6 1/2 turn down-spiral will convey shrink-wrapped six-pack and two-pack gallon jugs from an in-feed height of 19′ – 1″ to an out-feed height of 2′ – 10″ at floor level. Both the inner and outer tracks feature a 16″ wide slat.

The integrator on this project is Pacific Packaging Systems, for a large dairy plant in Utah. The space to decline the two high volume packaging lines was so limited, the dual spiral was the only viable option.

Two spiral conveyor tracks operate independently within one vertical conveying structure, making the Ryson Dual Track Spiral Conveyor the ultimate space saver.

For more information on the Ryson Dual Track Spiral Conveyor, you can visit www.ryson.com or download a Dual product spec sheet.

The Ryson Spiral conveyor can be manufactured to operate in a freezer environment down to -30 degrees. The spiral conveyor is a logical choice for declining frozen product to a robotic palletizer or downstream packaging line. When compared to other methods like belt declines and vertical case lowerators, the Ryson Spiral design is very reliable for this harsh environment.  The blue slats are a proprietary compound developed by Ryson to operate in low temperatures and not be brittle.

Ryson Spiral Conveyors can be configured to operate effectively in freezer environments.

We recently shipped a special cold spiral for handling large tubs of Ice Cream in a freezer (minus 10 degrees F) at a large Ice Cream manufacturer in the Midwest by our Systems Integrator, Engineered Packaging Systems of Addison, Illinois. The above photo was taken in our manufacturing plant during testing prior to shipping. This spiral joins many other Ryson spirals in use in sub-zero environments across North America.

Bright red Ryson Case Spiral

Pack expo 2011 is a hive of activity. Attendance is up and the Ryson booth is busy as ever.

The spiral conveyor is getting increased attention at the packaging shows and our shiny stainless steel mass flow spiral conveyor is a huge attractor, moving bottles of beer up and down.
Our tall red vertical case spiral can be seen from much of the south hall. Because it’s running, it always stops people in the aisles. It is running an assortment of packaged products that illustrates the diversity of its conveying capabilities.

One of our integrators, Arrowhead Conveyor Systems, also featured a Ryson Spiral Conveyor in their booth. It was in a system loop where a robotic depalletizer feeds packages to a down spiral. A conveyor then brings them to the palletizer. It was a nice display illustrating how a spiral can facillitate a packaging line.

PackExpo is a great show for Ryson and we find it gratifying that customers visit us to express their satisfaction with our spiral machines. We are also taking a support role for our integrators, when they bring their customers to our booth to show off our spiral technology. The Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors are designed in response to our customers’ need to go higher and handle more weight.

These high capacity vertical spirals handle double the capacity of our regular spirals and ship in one piece which will drastically reduce the time and cost of installation. Ryson Spiral Conveyors need less floor space than conventional vertical conveyors and are faster and more reliable than any elevator or lift. The load capacity is 75 lbs. per linear foot of conveyor for speeds up to 200 FPM.  The total weight capacity in the spiral at any one time is 3600 lbs.  Only one drive motor is required, resulting in substantial savings in energy, controls, and system integration.

Multiple Entry Spirals.

The Multiple Entry Spirals allow loads to enter the spirals from several different elevations. A new high speed induction conveyor provides controlled spiral entry. The conveyor belts are individually adjustable to match the spiral pitch. Traffic controls are required to prevent loads entering from different levels colliding in the spiral.

Ryson Spiral Conveyor with Optional Extended Infeed

Ryson Spiral Conveyor with Optional Extended Out-feed

Configuration options of Ryson Spiral’s in and out-feed tangents can provide great layout flexibility.

The Ryson Vertical Spiral Conveyor modular design allows the position and length of the in-feed tangent on up spirals and the out-feed tangent on down spirals to meet custom layout requirements. This provides great layout felxibility in tight spaces and accomodate conveyor line centerline offsets.

Extending the tangents can also eliminate short conveyor sections between the spiral and other system components. The extended tangent is powered by the spiral drive, and saves in the cost of integration and controls. Ryson’s proprietary design allows the extension to operate in any direction from the spiral.

This week Ryson is shipping a down spiral to a major beverage company with a curved extended out-feed which efficiently accommodates a centerline offset in a reconfigured packaging line. The integrator on this project is Foth Production Solutions.

Ryson Spiral Extended in-feed configurations

The position and length of the in-feed tangent on up spirals and out-feed tangent on down spirals can be customized to meet specific layout requirements.

You can download a Ryson Size and Model Chart on www.ryson.com and you can specify any unique tangent requirements.

Ryson Mass Flow FAT

Factory Testing a new High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor with lightweight aluminum bottles

An optional Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is available to all our customers. Ryson always runs and tests each spiral before shipping from our Virginia manufacturing plant, but customers often want assurance that their products are handled as required on our spirals before leaving our factory.  Since travel to observe this isn’t always a viable option, Ryson is happy to videotape and photograph the test and post the video securely via the internet. Many of our customers take advantage of this time and money saving resource.

This week  a 1900-400 High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor is shipping out to MillerCoors in Golden Colorado. The Spiral will lowerate their new aluminum bottles from de-palletizing to the filler. The customer was concerned about the stability and handling of the product since the bottles are tall and lightweight. They shipped us a skid-full so we could test the flow and stability of the product before final approval and shipping.

View a portion of the video we produced for the customer and Sidel, the integrator on this project. If you have any question about how Ryson could set up a video test for you, please give us a call at 757-898-1350 or visit www.ryson.com.

Stainless Steel Ryson Hybrid Spiral ConveyorRyson Stainless Steel Hybrid Washdown Units are a perfect fit for food and beverage packaging applications.

In addition to our standard powder coated spiral conveyors, Ryson manufactures stainless steel and stainless steel washdown spirals suitable for industries like food and beverage packaging. Ryson also has a Stainless Steel hybrid available, which combines elements of both. The Ryson Hybrid Stainless Steel Spiral Conveyor combines the flexibility and price of our standard spiral, and the corrosion resistant properties of our stainless washdown unit.

The Hybrid unit is great for washdown areas where harsh chemicals are not used. Our standard aluminum painted center tube is used instead of stainless steel, which reduces premium materials and allows for simpler future reconfiguration of the spiral. As a result, this unit is less expensive than our all-stainless steel model.

Stainless Hybrid Spiral Control PanelRyson can also pre-wire your spirals – saving on field-wiring costs and reducing implementation time at the project site. Here’s a photo on our manufacturing floor of some Hybrid washdown spirals with washdown (Nema 4X) control panel and pre-wiring.

For more information about options for the Ryson Spiral Conveyors, visit www.ryson.com. You can download information on our pre-wiring options here.
