Ryson was video interviewed by DC Velocity Magazine, allowing us to show off our impressive demo loop that highlights many features of our High Capacity Spiral Conveyors, including induction and diverting out at intermediate elevations. It is very illustrative of how our Spirals are used in a multi-level warehousing or order-picking operation.

Once our Demo Loop is shipped back to Ryson, it will serve as a product testing unit. That allows us to send videos of prospective customer’s product running on the spiral, which helps ease concerns and answer questions about how smoothly their product will be handled.

This Week Ryson is at Promat in Chicago. The hall is abuzz with the latest and greatest warehousing and logistics technology.

Ryson is showing a fully operating demo loop including two High Capacity Spirals with induction and divert-out conveyors at intermediate elevations.

The demonstration was a show-stopper. We are very pleased with the reception and it is clear that being able to run a loop is incredibly illustrative of real-world warehousing applications.

The operating loop clearly shows many of the features and benefits of the Ryson Spiral Conveyors. Some newer features were also highlighted:

Ryson Induction and Divert Conveyors

  • Extended In or Outfeed Tangents that can be straight or curved to fit challenging layout requirements.
  • MDR Induction Conveyor with friction coated rollers create an adjustable conveying surface to match spiral pitch assuring a smooth and reliable product transfer.
  • Divert arm with powered belt surface and an adjustable low friction MDR conveyor that assures controlled orientation of the loads as  they divert out of the spiral.
  • Special rounded (button) friction inserts thatprovide just enough friction to prevent products from sliding back in the spiral without preventing smooth side movement during induction or divert out.

Space-saving Multiple Exit Spirals allow multi-level product flow, allowing loads to exit a spiral at intermediate elevations… all with a single footprint. 

Multiple Exit Spirals: Exponential Space Savings.This is a perfect application for multi-level warehousing and pick module order picking operations. Loads are able to exit from  a single spiral at multiple elevations, saving valuable floorspace.

Ryson Spirals can also be configured to have loads enter the spiral at intermediate levels. Both options require a High Capacity or Wide Trak Spiral. The multiple entry and exit spirals are equipped with slats that have special rounded friction inserts. They provide just enough friction to prevent products from back sliding without preventing smooth side movement during induction or diverting out.

The specialized and proprietary Divert Out Conveyors have a pivoting arm which incorporates a powered face belt assuring proper product orientation when diverting out of the spiral.  The powered out feed conveyor is similar to the induction conveyor in that they have individually adjustable rollers that allows you to match the spiral pitch, assuring a reliable product transfer out of the spiral.

Integrated traffic controls are required for all Multiple Entry and Exit Spirals.  There are some limitations with regards to the placement (location) of these ancillary conveyors, and the throughput capacity may be reduced,  so we encourage you to contact the Ryson sales team for layout assistance early in your project.

This concept is also commonly used in applications where a single spiral is utilized for multiple production or packaging lines. Ryson Dependability turns into repeat customersRyson Dependability is something we strive for. Customer service and support go hand-in-hand with the quality and cost of ownership of our products. In many cases that turns into repeat customers.

Here’s a shot from a project site where we recently installed ten new 1700-600 spirals. The end-user, a manufacturer of paperboard products had commissioned one of our spirals seven years ago in a packaging environment running seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

 That Ryson Dependability and low cost of ownership made it a simple decision to go with Ryson Spirals on their latest plant expansion. The spirals were installed at the end of ten production lines, conveying finished product up to overhead conveyors which flows to the palletizing area.

The spirals were pre-wired in our shop to special specifications called out by the customer. They shipped totally pre-assembled and coupled with the pre-wiring, reduced field implementation time once they arrived on site. The spirals feature a 24″ wide conveying surface and have an 8 foot elevation change.

This is especially useful in multi-tier pick modules and warehousing. It allows a single space saving spiral to service multiple levels. The cost and space savings is exponential.

The video below shows some recent applications where Ryson Spirals are used to induct or divert out at intermediate points. There are 2 main operating modes for the induction operation. The first is where controls are applied to find a gap in the product flow to induct the loads, the other is a “batch” induction where “slugs” are introduced to the spiral at the same time.

The special induction and divert conveyors have individually adjustable conveying surfaces to match the spiral pitch, assuring a smooth and reliable operation.

Modex 2018 logoThis week Ryson is exhibiting at Modex 2018 in Atlanta. 

This show is our biggest show to reach our logistics, warehousing and distribution industry customers and integrators.

We are running our new Wide Trak Spiral Conveyor in our booth. This spiral can have a slat width of up to 36 inches. It is in our family of High Capacity Spirals that can optionally be configured with our proprietary induction and divert-out conveyors that allow loads to enter or exit the spiral at intermediate elevations. This is a clear space-savings advantage for companies that have multi-tiered product flow.

The multiple entry ability is most often utilized in two main areas:

In the manufacturing and packaging market, an induction conveyor is typically installed at ground level, near the Spiral’s infeed. This configuration simply allows flow from separate production lines to feed a single spiral.

The Ryson High Capacity Spirals with optional Multi Induction or Divert Out Conveyors are making an impact in the retail world. These spirals are perfect for distribution centers and order picking systems.

The new Divert Out Conveyors are ready for shipping from our manufacturing plant in Yorktown, Virginia.

This week we shipped two High Capacity Spirals to a major retail designer and distributor right outside of New York City. The first spiral will have three induction conveyors and the second one will have three divert out conveyors. The Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors are perfect for this application due to the size of the products.

The model 1700-600 spirals will be elevating and bringing down sealed cartons and totes 30’ at a speed of 150 fpm. Both spirals will be supplied by and feeding to three picking levels. The induction and divert out conveyors are designed specifically to work with Ryson High Capacity Spirals and becomes an integral part of the spirals.

The Induction Conveyors have a new powered roller design where the rollers are individually adjustable to match the the spiral pitch, assuring a safe and reliable product transfer.

The Divert Out arm pivots across the spiral slats when diverting out. It incorporates a powered face belt, which assures proper product orientation when diverted out of the spiral. The outfeed conveyors also have an adjustable surface to match the spiral pitch, facilitating smooth product transfer out of the spiral.

The spirals were shipped  for our Integrator Partner, TGW Conveyor Systems. The spirals were manufactured, built and shipped in only 8 weeks. They were shipped fully assembled which will reduce the installation and integration time. This week we’re shipping three spiral conveyors to California for our integrator partner, Honeywell Intelligrated. Two of these are high capacity multi-infeed spirals where cartons will be inducted into two different spiral elevations, in addition to the natural infeed.
