Ryson 3D Cad Block for Spiral ConveyorWith the continual evolution of CAD technology, we are seeing more and more of our Systems Integration partners using AutoCad 3D drawings in their system presentations and proposals.

With Ryson’s customer-centric commitment to service and support, we offer 3D drawings of  much of our product line and spiral models. We understand that our integrators have at times tight deadlines, so we strive to provide these requests within 24 hours or along with our proposal if pricing is also requested.

If you would like to get more information about our spiral conveyor systems, please visit www.ryson.com. If you would like to request a 3D cad block for a proposal, please complete our online RFQ form.

Tall Case Spiral that Spans 3 Production Floors Here is a great example of how a single Ryson Spiral Conveyor can span multiple levels of production.  This tall down-spiral collects cases from the third floor production area, and conveys them through a hole in the floor towards the ground level. On the second floor, an induction conveyor merges cartons from the second level production area into the spiral. The conveyor then drops through the ceiling to an over-head conveyor system on the first floor which brings the mixed product cases to a sortation center and palletizer.

Ryson Induction Conveyor

A high speed induction conveyor introduces the cases from the second level production lines.

The system has the ability to convey product from all production lines from levels two and three down to the palletizing level with a single spiral. This application saves valuable floor space and reduces the need for multiple vertical conveying systems.

Ryson’s sister company, Apollo BV – based in Holland, implemented this spiral application at a household plastic manufacturing plant in Nothern Germany.

Tall Stainless Steel Mass Flow Spiral ConveyorWe recently conducted a comprehensive factory acceptance test (FAT) on two tall stainless steel mass flow spiral conveyors for a major food manufacturer. These two spirals will handle full jars of various sizes at a rate of up to 750 jars per minute. The spirals will decline from 21′ –  5″ to the floor level. The spirals feature 16″ wide slats and have 11 1/2 turns declining at an angle of 4.2 degrees.

The customer had developed a comprehensive test protocol to verify that the spirals were manufactured to meet their design and performance specifications. This included an 8 hour dry run during which time critical operating characteristics were measured.

The integrator on this project is the Dennis Group of Springfield MA. The order also included two 16 foot tall case spirals with 16″ wide slats. To view video footage of the Ryson Mass Flow Spiral conveyor, visit Ryson’s YouTube Channel.

Ryson Spiral Conveyors at Modex 2012

Plenty of interest at the Ryson booth at Modex 2012

The Modex show has been a smashing success for Ryson. We weren’t sure what to expect since this was the first Modex exposition, but the attendance is better than expected and Ryson gets to show off our new Spiral Conveyors to many new prospects and integrators.

Ryson’s booth is running a tall Case Spiral Conveyor with a 16″ wide slats and a High Capacity Spiral with 24″ wide slats. The High Capacity Spiral is running with two induction conveyors to demonstrate how we can introduce packages at intermediate levels into the spiral both in the up, and down direction. The Multiple Infeed Spiral is getting much attention in the warehousing and distribution marketplace.

Ryson has always made Customer Service and Support a top Priority. An open communication with our customers is the best way to ensure that our products are working properly and to quickly identify any maintenance issues.

Detail of the Proprietary Ryson Chain-Slat

Detail of the Proprietary Ryson Chain-Slat

Recently our Service Manager traveled to St. John’s Newfoundland to provide start-up assistance on a Ryson Spiral delivered to the Canadian Postal Service. The Engineer was so satisfied with the service, he wrote this telling commentary: “Thanks once again for the excellent support on the Ryson spiral this weekend. You went well above and beyond. Thanks for all the extra help that you provided with the Hytrol as well. Looking forward to seeing your plc code….” Ronald S. Power, Officer Postal Systems Engineering RE&T Atlantic.

One of the most frequent service related questions we receive is “how do we shorten the chain?” During operation, the chain in the spiral conveyor will stretch. Provisions are made for a fast and easy chain shortening method. We have a detailed step-by-step document to help you with our fast and easy chain shortening method. If you suspect that your spiral may need a chain adjustment, you can download this document, or read more about it online the the service section of the ryson website. If you have any questions or concerns with any of your Ryson Equipment, please don’t hesitate to contact our dedicated service department.

Mass Flow With Lane Divider

High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor With Lane Divider to Run Two Production Lines at the Same Time

This week we shipped one of our new high capacity mass flow spiral conveyors with 20″ wide slats to Lindy’s Italian Ice’s production facility in North Carolina. The spiral will convey cups of Italian Ice from a spiral freezer down to the floor level.

This application is interesting in that the cups come out of the freezer with two different flavors at the same time, which need to be conveyed in separate lanes. The two lanes are fed on to the spirals’s extended infeed which is equipped with a center lane divider ensuring separation of the two flavors in the spiral decline. The products are then discharged from  both sides of the spiral’s extended outfeed and conveyed to separate cartoners.

This spiral freezer and associated mass flow vertical conveyor enabled the customer to increase the production rate drastically. By using 2 lanes within one Ryson Spiral they also significantly reduced the cost of equipment.

Because of the size of the 2300-500 model high capacity spiral a stepped-deck flatbed trailer was used to ship the spiral. One of our Yorktown-based technicians met the trailer at it’s destination to supervise the unloading and set-up of the spiral, which took a day and a half.

The 20″ wide  slat mass flow model can handle capacities up to 2,000 bottle cans or jars per minute are also available in powder coated carbon steel, stainless steel and washdown versions. For more information on Ryson’s High Capacity Mass Flow Spiral Conveyor, please visit www.ryson.com. Our integration partner on this project was Garvey Corporation.

Installing Tall High Capacity Spiral

Installing a tall Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyor in a distribution center in Australia.

Four high capacity spiral conveyors are currently being installed in a large distribution warehouse for electronic products in Austrailia. These spiral elevators will service several order picking levels. The Tallest spiral feeds in product at 2′ – 6″ and discharges at 29′ – 0″. The Ryson High Capacity Spiral Conveyors easily handle the tall height requirements with only one drive. The 24″ wide slats will be able to handle loads with variable sizes and weights. There is also an intermediate high-speed induction conveyor at the 12′ – 6″ elevation to accommodate an additional order picking level with the same spiral conveyor unit. The induction conveyor adds additional operational flexibility and reduces the number of vertical conveyors required.

Two-Ryson-Spirals The Ryson Spirals are very easy to install and most spirals are shipped in one piece, pre-tested which drastically reduces the time and cost of installation.  These spirals were loaded fully assembled into 40′ containers and shipped as ocean freight to Australia. A member of our service team traveled down under to supervise the installation and provide maintenance training to ensure the longevity of the vertical conveyors. The integrator on this project is Bastian Material Handling.
