Happy New Year from RysonEveryone here at Ryson would like to wish you a fantastic and fortuitous happy new year.

As 2017 draws to a close, Ryson President and CEO, Ole Rygh looks towards 2018 with this letter.

Ryson International was founded in 1995 and specializes in Vertical Conveying Solutions.  We manufacture a full line of Spiral Conveyors that satisfy most vertical conveying needs. Ryson Spirals need less floor space than conventional incline conveyor and are faster and more reliable than any elevator or lift.

Ole Rygh, President and CEO of Ryson International

The economic climate is improving and we have several new products coming on line… We are committed to a continuous product improvement program.

  • Our new Wide Trak Spirals are in response to our customers’ need to handle bigger loads and reach higher elevations. Available with 30” and 36” wide slat belts. They can accommodate an elevation change of up to 50 feet with only one drive.
  • Our new Narrow Trak Spirals are super compact vertical conveyors designed to handle small loads at speeds in excess of 200 fpm.  A new nesting slat can reliably end transfer small cartons and packages or side transfer small bottles and containers in a single file or in a continuous mass flow. They come in 6” and 9” wide slat belts.

Quality and service comes first at Ryson. We are the number one manufacturer of Spiral Conveyors in the USA. Ryson products are crafted with great care in our modern Yorktown, Virginia manufacturing plant.  Our full inventory of spare parts enables us to provide the high level of service our customers have come to expect. We are dedicated to provide products and service that will help reduce our customers’ cost of ownership.

A large portion of our new orders come from existing customers.  It is always gratifying when our customers come back for more, because it validates that they are satisfied with our products and service. Our rapidly growing customer list contains names of small and large companies across  a broad spectrum of industries.

The Ryson modular design allows many custom spiral configurations that can be tailor fit to optimize the efficiency of an application.

Custom Spiral Configurations

This week, we shipped a spiral, model 1500-400 to a Dairy Products Manufacturer for our Integrator partner ScottTech Integrated Solutions. The spiral is used to feed empty cases from an automated case erector to a packing station on a second floor mezzanine platform.

Our design allowed the integrator to extend the spiral’s infeed 6 feet out to the case erector discharge. This saved an additional conveyor drive section (along with controls, integration, installation, etc.) and also saves energy, as the extension is driven by the spiral conveyor motor (2HP).

Lowering the total cost of ownership is an advantage Ryson strives to maximize. The modular design of our spirals allows many custom configuration options that can optimize efficiency and minimize maintenance and integration issues.

Split Lane Divider on a Spiral ConveyorOne way to use a single Ryson Spiral for two different production lines is to use a centered split lane divider.

We recently shipped this spiral to a major food manufacturer for our Integrator Partner, NCC Automated Systems. The spiral model 1700-600 is elevating plastic food trays 11’ supplied by two different production lines, separated by a center vertical divider (being added at the project site).

The spiral will run at 150 feet per minute and includes pre-wired controls and motorized rollers at the infeed and discharge, ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted transition on and off the spiral conveyor.

Ryson Spiral Conveyors are increasingly being used to vertically convey more than one production line by utilizing either a divided lane, a dual spiral, or configuring the spiral to have multiple inlets.

Ryson Spiral with Powered Transition RollersLast week, we shipped a spiral with quite a few pre-wired controls options, including  powered transition rollers.  A powered roller is most often used when the package being conveyed is either short, or lightweight. It helps assure a smooth and reliable transition onto and off of the spiral conveyor.

The integration partner on this project was NCC Automated Systems. They needed to convey sealed cartons that were both light and short. A Ryson 1200-300 case spiral was designed with a motorized transition roller at both the infeed and outfeed.

The end user also requested a stack light fault indicator because their ambient noise levels can prevent them from hearing the alarm enunciator.

Pre-wiring options can greatly reduce the time and cost of installation for our Spiral Conveyors. The stand alone control option is an especially attractive option if a spiral is replacing existing equipment or if an additional line is being installed.

Ryson has published a product spotlight describing the pre-wiring and controls options, and is available for download on ryson.com.
