A Custom Project for the Ryson High Speed Rotator

The Ryson High Speed Rotator is an
innovative conveyor for in-line rotating of cases and other unitized loads.

This specialized conveyor is used in packing lines where products need to be rotated upside down or to one side without delay or product damage. The Ryson High Speed Rotator can accommodate a wide range of load sizes without adjustment.  The loads can be rotated 90º or 180º in a continuous motion.

Next week Ryson will be sending a custom rotator to an application that involves a 180 degree rotation of unsealed cases of empty glass wine bottles.  An automatic case depalletizer removes the cases from the pallet a layer at a time.  The cases are then singulated, oriented and conveyed to our rotator with the unsealed flaps facing up.  As show in the above video product test, the Ryson High Speed Rotator then rotates the case upside down,  and delivers it to an uncaser, which separates the bottles from the case.  The empty glass bottles get sent to the filler and the empty cases are conveyed to the packer, where the filled and labeled wine is “re-packed” into it’s case.

One of the challenging aspects of this project was the wide variety of case sizes that our Integrator – Barry-Wehmiller Design Group – wanted us to rotate. This required adjustable guide rail to prevent the bottles from leaving the case while being inverted.

The unit will be installed next month in a major winery in California and one of our technicians has been scheduled to oversee the start-up and perform training for the operators and maintenance staff.
